At least one surface must be angled-elements with two parallel surfaces are not prisms. The traditional geometrical shape of an optical prism is that of a triangular prism with a triangular base and rectangular sides, and in colloquial use "prism" usually refers to this type. Some types of optical prism are not in fact in the shape of geometric prisms. Prisms can be made from any material that is transparent to the wavelengths for which they are designed. Typical materials include glass, plastic, and fluorite. Clear Aperture:  part of optics that complies with the standard, always greater than 90%. We manufacture high quality right angle optical prism using BK7 Grade A Optical Glass, UV Fused Silica and H-K9L. The degree of difference between the prism surface and the ideal plane is called surface flatness. Our right angle prism factory standard limits any deviation in flatness to λ /5. If you need higher precision surface flatness, please get in touch with us to discuss further. The lower the scratch count, the higher the surface quality. We can do 40/20 scratches and digs.
